COLD BREW COFFEE - THE LOUD MOUTH METHOD
Lazy summer days call for finding easier ways to create refreshing coffee. Cold brew, in a nutshell, is the process of seeping coffee grounds in water, keeping it cool and giving it time. Unlike your iced Americano, which mixes ice, espresso and cold water, the cold brew method means the ground coffee never comes into contact with heat, resulting in a smooth, rounded and mellow cup, full of flavour.
at Loud Mouth CoFFEE WE love to simplify and cut through the complicated coffee chaff to make it easier to create beautiful brews at home. LESSSGOOOOO
Seven steps to steep your way to happiness:
1. CHOOSE YOUR BEANS. Pick a Loud Mouth bean variety that you enjoy. Helpfully, all our beans are medium roast, ideal as they tend to bring out more flavor in cold brews. Of course, of course, we know you enjoy them all, so why not try our Rwanda for a bright refreshing fruity cup, boasting a juicy grapefruit acidity and a smooth melon finish.
2. GRIND YOUR BEANS: Or let us do it for you! You want your beans to be a coarse consistency, similar to raw sugar. This helps with extraction and prevents over-extraction.
3. CHOOSE YOUR RATIO: A general starting point is 1 part coffee to 4 parts water (1:4 ratio). Or 250g of coffee per litre. However, feel free to experiment and adjust to your taste preferences. For the hardened espresso nuts, use a higher coffee-to-water ratio until you find your desired strength.
4. COMBINE: In a container, combine the ground coffee and cold water. Stir gently to ensure all the coffee grounds are saturated. Cover the container and let it steep in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours.
5. STRAIN: After steeping, strain the cold brew using a fine-mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or a coffee filter. This will remove the coffee grounds and leave you with a smooth liquid.
6. DILUTE AND SERVE: Cold brew is concentrated, so dilute it with water, milk, or your preferred non-dairy alternative. But we love it black! We’d recommend serving over ice for ultimate refreshment. Try adding maple syrup or a spoon of honey syrup for a sweeter treat. Or why not go rogue with a topping of tonic and citrus slice.
7. STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE: Store your cold brew in a sealed container in the refrigerator. It can be made in advance and lasts up to 1-2 weeks when properly stored, making it the perfect cold concoction for busy brew lovers. Make sure to give it a stir before serving, as some separation may occur.
